Appliances

More stuff = more energy use

Our homes are using much more energy than they did twenty years ago. We can choose an efficient appliance, choose not to buy an appliance or choose to use it efficiently.

An increasing number of people are now buying whitegoods solely based on their energy star rating. Standby Power (the energy an appliance uses when it is plugged in, but not working) is now up to 10% of household energy. Companies are increasingly designing products for it's lifecycle, looking at water, waste, energy, materials and recycling. Look for low energy (low Wattage) and do a bit of research into the brand and the efforts they are making to move towards sustianable design.
