Furniture

It looks like a piece of furniture and it is - but if we delve deeper would we find environmental damage during manufacture? If we measured off gassing chemicals would we be alarmed?

There are many action we can take to ensure the furniture industry also heads towards the sustainable future we all want. We can buy recycled, buy local, buy environmentally made, buy low toxic, buy second hand, buy Forest Stewardship Council approved timbers and buy quality.

If the options outlined here are not available then ask why not when you buy, write to manufacturers and do some research to find the best option available now.

The future (for Bendigo!): Herman Miller are world leaders in sustainable furniture manufacturing. For each piece of furniture they design they look at three key areas:

  1. Material Chemistry and Safety of Inputs--What chemicals are in the materials we specify, and are they the safest available?
  2. Disassembly--Can we take products apart at the end of their useful life to recycle their materials?
  3. Recyclability--Do the materials contain recycled content, and more importantly, can the materials be recycled at the end of the product's useful life?

Cycling = Health benefits
Cycling is mainly an aerobic activity, which means that your heart, blood vessels and lungs all get a workout. You will breathe deeper, perspire and experience increased body temperature, thereby improving your overall fitness level. Cycling will also:     * Develop your fitness without joint stress     * Increase aerobic fitness     * Improve muscle tone and strength     * Help prevent disease (heart disease, diabetes)     * Manage weight     * Heighten energy levels     * Manage pain     * Assist in reducing stress, anxiety and depression, partly through the physical activity itself, but also due to the pleasure and satisfaction of riding a bike.
