Hints to help reduce waste during the festive season.
A list of waste free hints from our own wonderful Calder Waste Guru Kerrie Tomkins
- Instead of using Christmas paper to wrap presents, find a decorative box - they’re reusable are a present in themselves.
- Put the kids’ presents in a stocking or a Santa Sack - it will save you hours of wrapping.
- Email your friends a festive message with a Christmas picture instead of sending a card, it saves time, money and paper.
- Buy a living Christmas tree in a pot it may start off small but will grow and it is environmentally friendly.
- When purchasing gifts look for items that have a minimal amount of packaging
- Instead of getting a plastic shopping bag at every shop you go into take you own shopping bags or use the bag you get at the first shop to put other purchases in.
- For those outside office celebrations, take your own glass, much nicer than drinking out of plastic cups.
- Use the front of last year’s Christmas Cards as gift tags.
- Instead of wrapping those electrical goods you buy that come in cardboard boxes, use some left over paint and paint them – you can let your imagination run wild!
