Clothing requires energy, water, toxic chemicals, land and glues. In fact, if you own 11 pairs of jeans you could fill a swimming pool with the water it took to produce them. And it would not be a pool worth swimming in as pesticides and and lot of fertilizer

are used too.

Our purchasing choices can make a big difference - and they already are. The fashion houses of Paris are now pushing sustainable production onto suppliers around the world - they are doing this because people are wanting to buy sustainable clothes. They aren't silly: they want to make a lot of money. In Bendigo Kathmandu and Snowgum both have lines of clothing made from natural and recycled materials. We also have great options for recycled clothing.
