The trick with shopping is to use our money to drive ecologically sustainable manufacturing. We can choose less packaging, less waste, lower embodied energy, lower energy rating, less water, recyclable, reusable, organic and more.
It takes a while to find the stores and products that are moving in the sustainable direction. But they are out there and growing in number. Join in and help them emerge!
The future: Well, the future for Australia anyway. In Europe you can now buy a recycled plastic solar powered phone and a Nike Air Jordan that is non toxic, with a compostable upper and a sole made from recycled shoes that Nike want back again when you're finished. The fashion industry is pushing sustainable farming practices and SONY is creating large screen TVs that use much less energy and toxic materials. The latest Mac computer is green, made from click apart recyclable components and less toxic materials.
